Last week professional social network LinkedIn pulled back the curtain on how it will tap into its 2015 purchase of online course provider Lynda.com.
During a press event, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner announced the redesign of the platform to improve user experience. He also unveiled LinkedIn Learning.
Powered by Lynda.com, the new feature offers members access to online courses — recommending ones closely aligned with people’s individual career paths based on professional data they’ve provided. Once on course pages, users can see who else has taken the course, their position and where they work. Users also can search within LinkedIn Learning for courses based on their learning needs. Further, learning leaders can use the tool to recommend courses to employee groups, as well as create unique learning paths.
Acknowledging a rapidly transforming employment environment in which the shelf life of skills has been significantly reduced, Lynda.com Senior Vice President of Content and Production and Chief of Staff Tanya Staples said this new feature would help professionals improve themselves in a world where they need to learn “every moment of the day.” Staples said LinkedIn Learning is already available to LinkedIn’s premium members and will be available to enterprise subscribers in the future.
LinkedIn, which was acquired by Microsoft this June, purchased Lynda.com in April 2015.
