Looking back over the two years since your participation in the program, what knowledge, skills, insight or behaviors did you learn that you continue to use?
I would say the overwhelming skill I used and have enhanced since the course is collaboration. It was important to sync daily (sometimes twice a day) and provide input on key decisions as well as return information back on action items set during the previous meeting. Influence was another skill used during the course which I’ve enhanced over the years. It was crucial to speak up, and the course allowed me the confidence and opportunity to do so.
What impact to the business have you had that you can attribute — at least in part — to your participation in the program?
I believe the impact I’ve made to the business is passion and determination to succeed. I was on the winning team of the first virtual course and our entire team possessed the determination to win. Even though we were all extremely busy with our “real” jobs, we treated the course as real and put in a lot of hours to give us the best chance to win. We collaborated well and each of us would speak up and “respectfully” disagree on the course of action to take. I think the openness helped us make the best decisions, which led to our success.
What impact on your career goals, such as job transition or promotion, can you attribute to your participation in the program?
Since attending the course, I have changed jobs and have been promoted to a global role which requires being on several virtual teams. I feel my experience with the virtual course helped me understand the complexities of working on a virtual team and how to overcome them.Filed under: Leadership Development
