Master's Degree in Executive Coaching Shows Dividends

New York — July 17
The BeamPines Master’s Program in Executive Coaching is entering its fifth year with the class of 2010 beginning this September. Enrollment is now open. Company sponsors of master’s candidates continue to benefit from tangible results of completed Work-Based Learning research projects.

Dr. Joshua Ehrlich, program co-founder and dean, sees growing momentum for an applied approach to teaching the art and science of coaching. “Our candidates and graduates are the best advocates we have,” said Ehrlich. “We can provide powerful examples of completed research to companies or individuals considering our program. It’s a significant investment with a compelling return.”

“The research component of the program provides the discipline and academic foundation for creating a model of change appropriate for the organization.” said Kelly Mangold, senior vice president of corporate administration for Guideposts and current candidate in the program. “The opportunity to participate in a rigorous program with other executives provides for unique learning opportunities.”

Candidate projects to date have measured the impact of coaching and mentoring on employee engagement at a leading health services company, measured the types of employees most likely to benefit from coaching, and demonstrated the impact of coaching over a three-year period inside a Fortune 500 financial services firm. One project focused on a complete succession plan for the senior management team at a medical manufacturing company.

Robert Vavrina, former senior vice president for BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina, recognizes the value of the program for internal and external strategies. “I would recommend the BeamPines program to anyone who is building an internal coaching practice,” said Vavrina, a class of 2007 honors graduate.

“Thought leaders who want to establish a career-learning environment within their organizations or who want to become an external executive coach would benefit from the experience.”
