In conjunction with the release of the “The Role of HR in the Age of Talent” research report, the Human Capital Institute (HCI), a global professional association and think tank advancing the science of strategic talent management, announced its new research practice, HCI Research. The practice will chronicle the movement from corporate HR departments to talent management for global information economies.
“The Role of HR in the Age of Talent” report shows that only 22 percent of HR leaders were considered experts across talent management issues such as globalization, outsourcing, workforce integration and financial acumen. At the same time, HR organizations have made progress embracing talent management principles.
The first study from HCI Research was HCI’s annual survey, titled “Talent Markets: The Importance of Location in the Competition for Human Capital,” which was released November 2007. The study found that the “brand,” or perception, of a city is a critical factor in the decision-making process for job candidates. Therefore, cities and employers that understand, manage and promote their brands will be best positioned to attract and keep knowledge workers of all ages. The study went on to rank the best and worst places to live in the United States.
