The Chief Learning Officer (CLO) is defined as the “business leader of corporate learning.” The CLO owns the corporation’s learning and development strategy, programs, and systems. This individual is responsible for creating a learning organization and development-oriented culture by acting as the business leader of enterprise corporate learning.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Determines the impact of learning on corporate strategy and develops an integrated learning plan.
  • Provides leadership and guidance for key corporate training areas (including, foundational training, Basic skills training for all associates and leadership training).
  • Also provides guidance and leadership for the corporate training shared service areas (learning technologies, learning measurement and evaluation, vendor management, instructional design and performance consulting).
  • Develops internal and external partnership and alliances to meet specific business learning needs.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree from an accredited academic institution required in Organization Development, Organizational Psychology, Human Resource Development, or related discipline.
  • 10– 15 years of leadership experience in learning and development field
  • Professional certification preferred (Human Performance Improvement, Certified Professional in Learning and Performance, or Certified Performance Technologist)
  • This individual should also have an entrepreneurial spirit, experience consulting with executive level members of an organization, strategic vision, and the ability to drive results.
